What Is Memory Care?
Memory Care is a special service for individuals dealing with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and other forms of memory impairment.
At The Willows, we assist residents with their medication and with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as dressing, grooming, bathing, and moving around. We provide a space specifically designed for Memory Care that is easy-to-navigate, safe, and monitored 24 hour per day. Our staff are trained to care for memory-impaired individuals and understand the challenges that Alzheimer’s and dementia present.
24 Hour, Comprehensive, Trained, Professional Care
It doesn’t have to be a struggle
When to Start Thinking About Memory Care
It’s time to consider Memory Care when you worry your loved ones are no longer safe living on their own. Ideally, you’re already thinking about the next step before they go to the store and can’t find their way home, or accidentally start a fire while cooking.
It may also be time if you’re experiencing caregiver fatigue. You’ve sacrificed time away from your work, your spouse, and your children to care for a family member with dementia. It can take a lot out of you – it’s a full-time job and then some.
Sharing the burden with professional caregivers is often the best thing you can do for the health and safety of your loved one. Let our staff help so you can enjoy your visits together without worrying.
You may feel some guilt – the best caregivers often do. But it’s important to remember that your loved one will be safest, healthiest, and most engaged in a place that’s purpose-built to help those with dementia.
Why The Willows’ Approach to Memory Care is Different
We believe memory impairment shouldn’t prevent people from living well. A fulfilling and engaged life is possible with dementia. Our care follows from that philosophy.
Physical Activity. An abundance of research links exercise with better cognitive function. The effects of memory impairment can be slowed with a healthy exercise routine. Our onsite exercise area and regularly scheduled exercise activities can help keep both mind and body healthy.
Community. Research – and common sense – makes clear that community is crucial to our well-being. Social bonds have a positive effect on health and longevity. Our focus on community helps keep memory-impaired individuals connected.
Engaging Activities. Music, games, and learning opportunities all help to slow the effects of memory impairment. They also make each day dynamic and enjoyable. Our comprehensive events calendar will keep your loved one engaged.
Personalized Care. Our licensed nursing staff will perform an initial assessment and work with family and physicians to figure out exactly what level of care your loved one needs. Professional, 24-hour caregivers make sure your loved one is safe and comfortable.
Memory-Friendly Space. We’ve designed our community with Memory Care in mind. Memory cues help residents navigate the facility and find their rooms. Personal photos are placed outside each resident’s room, artwork and objects act as landmarks in the hallways, and common spaces are arranged to let residents – and their families – comfortably gather.
